CommBank Matilda Clare Wheeler will be unavailable for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup to be held later this month in the United States.
The midfielder was medically withdrawn from the 23-player squad by her club, Everton FC Women after sustaining a thigh injury earlier this week. Wheeler will continue her rehabilitation with the club as part of her return-to-play plan.
Melbourne Victory FC’s Alana Murphy has been called up as a replacement for Wheeler. The 19-year-old former CommBank Young Matildas’ midfielder has been a key member of Victory during their 2024/25 Ninja A-League campaign which currently has the club in second place.
Murphy joins Brisbane Roar FC’s Laini Freier as the only uncapped players in the SheBelieves Cup squad.
Australia will kick off their campaign on February 19 against fellow AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ qualifiers, Japan, at Toyota Stadium in Houston (4:00pm local).
They will then face the world’s top-ranked team and reigning Olympic champions, the United States, on February 22 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale (3:05pm local). Their tournament will conclude on February 25 with a showdown against Colombia at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego (4:30pm local).
Australia’s participation in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup will be available for fans to watch live on Paramount+ thanks to Football Australia’s broadcast partner, Paramount Australia.
