Football Australia is pleased to announce that the CommBank Matildas will face England, the Lionesses, during their October FIFA Women’s International Window.
The Lionesses, who are currently ranked fourth in FIFA’s rankings, will play Australia on Tuesday, 28 October at 7pm local time/Wednesday 29 October 2025, 6:00am AEDT, at Pride Park in Derby.
This will be the first time the two teams have met since England defeated the CommBank Matildas 3-1 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023 in the semifinals in Sydney.
England and the CommBank Matildas have played each other seven times, with the Matildas recording two wins, one draw and four losses.
The English national women’s team has just recently defended their title at the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025 in Julywith a win over Spain.
CommBank Matildas’ Head Coach, Joe Montemurro, said the next two windows, in October (20-29) and November/December (24-2), will be crucial for the CommBank Matildas in their preparation for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™.
"Playing England in this October window is another key moment for the team as we continue to build toward the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™.
“England are one of the top teams in the world, and facing a team of their quality, is a valuable opportunity for us to challenge ourselves.
“This match will provide a tough test that will help us assess where the team and players are at and identify areas for growth.
“It is important that we use these international windows to push our limits, develop deeper connections within the group, and continue setting the standards that will define our performance moving forward.
“The opportunity to play a quality side is important at this time in honing the teams’ skills and the style of play we are trying to develop as a team. It is also a great way to identify the players that are going to be crucial to our success at the AFC Women’s Asia Cup and beyond."
Fans in Australia will be able to watch both matches exclusive on Paramount+ with all the live action starting with a pre-match show from 11.30pm AEST for Australia v Wales and 5:30am AEDT for Australia v England.
