The CommBank Matildas will face Europe’s most dominant women’s football team, Germany, during the upcoming October FIFA Women’s International Window, as preparations continue for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™.
The match will be played on Friday, 9 October, kick-off 8.30pm local time/ Saturday, 10 October, 5.30am AEDT, at BBBank Wildpark in Karlsruhe.
Germany, ranked No. 3 in the world, are eight-time European champions - six ahead of England and Norway - and are the only nation, alongside the United States, to win multiple FIFA Women’s World Cups.
The CommBank Matildas’ latest clash will continue a brewing rivalry with Germany, the five-time Olympic medallists, which includes gold in 2016 and bronze at the most recent Olympics (2024) and Sydney 2000.
The CommBank Matildas beat Germany in their last encounter in October 2024, which included a wonder strike from Kyra Cooney-Cross and a debut goal from Clare Hunt.
The match will serve as another important benchmark for the squad ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™. Facing top-ranked nations and a variety of football styles will be a key component of the team's preparation, with Germany providing a valuable test against high-calibre European opposition as the build-up continues.
