CommBank Matildas announce squad for April FIFA Series

CommBank Matildas Head Coach Joe Montemurro has named a 22-player squad to participate in the team’s first FIFA Series running from 11-15 April in Kenya.

As the team turns its focus to preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year, Montemurro has opted for consistency across the squad with a focus on the next phase of growth and players who will be crucial to the team’s style and depth over the next year.

Nineteen members of the squad involved in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign will travel to Kenya, with some players opting to rest this international window following a demanding tournament. Defender Clare Hunt remains unavailable for selection due to a knee injury.

Leticia McKenna (Melbourne City) makes her squad debut, with Jessika Nash (US Sassuolo) and Isabel Gomez (Central Coast Mariners) returning to international duty. The team will be led by stalwart Sam Kerr as captain, with Steph Catley as vice-captain.

Leticia McKenna recieves her first senior call-up.

The April FIFA Series will take place in Kenya, with the host nation, Malawi and India participating alongside Australia. The CommBank Matildas will play their first game against Malawi, with the second game opponent to be determined pending results.

CommBank Matildas Head Coach, Joe Montemurro, said the team are focused and ready to use every opportunity to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil:

“This window gives us a valuable opportunity to reflect on the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and continue building consistency that will underpin the team over the next sixteen months.

“We have maintained a core playing group while also providing chances for players who have earned their opportunity through club performances.

“The FIFA Series in Kenya will offer unique challenges and a test against diverse opposition. As we build toward the FIFA Women’s World Cup, it’s essential we expose ourselves to the styles and environments we’ll encounter on the global stage. We look forward to embracing this opportunity and using every moment together to sharpen our focus for the journey ahead.”
