In case you missed it, the CommBank Matildas quarter-final opponents were confirmed last night, following the last group stage games in Group B.
Following a 2-1 defeat in their final group stage game, Australia will face Korea DPR for a place in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026™ semi-final.
This will mark the 16th meeting between the two sides since first playing each other back in 1998. The most memorable meeting came during the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2010 tournament, where Australia claimed their first piece of silverware in Asia, beating Korea DPR 5-4 on penalties after scores were locked 1-1 after extra time.
Korea DPR is playing in their first AFC Women's Asian Cup since that defeat in the final back in 2010. The side was banned from competing in the 2014 edition due to failed doping tests during the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, did not qualify for the 2018 edition, and withdrew from the 2022 tournament.
The side are three-time Champions of the tournament, lifting the trophy in 2001, 2003 and 2008, and are currently ranked 9th in the FIFA World Rankings.
