With both Australia and Scotland confirming their squad for the opening game of the April FIFA international window, we look at the connection between the two sides.

Courtney Nevin x Sophie Howard at Leicester City

Nevin, since joining Leicester City at the start of the year, has played alongside Scottish International Sophie Howard in the Foxes' defence.

Howard, the German-born centre-back, has quickly become a mainstay in Leicester's defence, signing from Reading FC at the start of the 2020-21 season. 

The defender, who has previously represented Germany at the youth level, has played for Scotland 35 times, making her debut back in 2017. Nevin has played alongside Howard since joining Leicester early in the year.

Sam Kerr x Erin Cuthbert at Chelsea

A formidable partnership for the Blues, Sam Kerr has been playing alongside Erin Cuthbert at Chelsea since the Aussie joined the club in 2020. 

Cuthbert has made over 100 appearances for Chelsea, signing with the club back in 2017 from Glasgow City.

The midfielder, made her debut for her national team in 2016, making 58 appearances for Scotland since then. Most notably, helping her country to qualification for their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019, scoring in the final tournament in Scotland's 3-3 draw against Argentina in the group stage. 

Both players started throughout the week in Chelsea's UWCL quarter-final win over Lyon, with Cuthbert coming off in the 111th minute for the Blues. 

Mackenzie Arnold x Kirsty Smith at West Ham United

The duo have been linking up for the Hammers this season, Arnold in goals for the Irons while Smith occupies a defensive role for West Ham.

Smith, making the move to West Ham at the start of the season after four years at Manchester United, debuted for Scotland back in 2014. 

The defender will be looking to bring up her 50th appearance when Scotland faces Australia, sitting on 49 caps for her country. 

Teagan Micah x Fiona Brown at FC Rosengård

Micah, since joining FC Rosengård in 2021 has played alongside Scottish forward Fiona Brown, who has played at the club since 2018.

The duo has helped Rosengård to back-to-back Damallsvenskan titles and also lifted the Swedish Women's Cup alongside one another. 

Brown has scored two goals for Scotland since debuting with the team in 2015, her last goal for her country was against New Zealand in 2018. 

Hayley Raso, Alanna Kennedy and Mary Fowler x Caroline Wier at Manchester City (with Wier since leaving to join Real Madrid)

Despite Caroline Wier only playing one season at Manchester City alongside the Aussie duo of Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy, making the move to Real Madrid, the three helped City win the Conti Cup title.

Weir, who is just four caps away from making her 100th appearance for Scotland, was a part of the Great Britain team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that Australia faced, with the midfielder having her penalty saved by Teagan Micah in the match.
