Amy Sayer's season cut short following ACL injury

CommBank Matilda Amy Sayer’s promising 2024 Damallsvenskan season has been cut abruptly short following confirmation that the Kristianstads DFF midfielder has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The 22-year-old was helped off the pitch in the Swedish side’s Round 3 fixture against Hammarby over the weekend, with subsequent scans verifying that Sayer would face a lengthy stay on the sidelines.

CommBank Matildas Head Coach, Tony Gustavsson, expressed his disappointment for Sayer.

“Since returning to the national team set up in late 2022, Amy has been a positive addition to our team with her attitude and work ethic on and off the pitch,” Gustavsson said.  “To have suffered this setback is an upsetting blow for Amy and for our Matildas family.”

“As always for us, our priority will be on supporting Amy and ensuring she is provided with care and assistance as she needs to navigate this challenging time.”

Sayer will continue medical assessments in Sweden in the coming days prior to undergoing ACL surgery and commencing rehabilitation with no current return to play timeframes.
