Alanna Kennedy signs for Angel City FC in the NWSL

CommBank Matildas' defender Alanna Kennedy has officially signed for Angel City FC, making her return to the NWSL for the first time since departing the league in 2020.

Kennedy has signed a one-year contract through 2025 with a mutual extension option for the 2026 season with Angel City after five seasons in the Women's Super League, first with Tottenham Hotspur and then four seasons with Manchester City.

This will be the defender’s time in Manchester saw her help The Citizens to the FA Women's League Cup in the 2020/21 season, making 40 appearances.

The defender is no stranger to the NWSL, signing with the Western New York Flash in 2016 and helping the club win the 2016 NWSL Championship. Kennedy then spent three seasons with Orlando Pride, making 60 NWSL match appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

Kennedy will link up with her former Orlando Pride teammates in Ali Riley, Sydney Leroux and Claire Emslie on the West Coast.

Angel City finished the 2024 season in 12th place, picking up 7 wins in 26 games, and will be looking to get back to their best.

“I am really excited to join Angel City and return to the NWSL," stated Kennedy. “I was inspired by the club’s mission and purpose and I am looking forward to arriving in LA and meeting all my teammates. Equally, I am excited to get to work and contribute to the team's success on the field.”

“Alanna is an experienced defender who brings both leadership and a winning mentality to our team, said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “Her international experience with Australia, coupled with her ability to play in multiple defensive positions, makes her a versatile addition to our roster. We look forward to seeing her contribute to the culture and success of Angel City.”
